History of the Dictionary
This chapter of the History of English focuses on the history of the dictionary, explaining just how difficult it was to put together a dictionary when new words were being created at such a rapid pace.
Lexicographers came together to make sense of the English language but it wasn’t an easy task. In 1857 a new book was started which became the Oxford Dictionary although it took 70 years to complete after going through a number of different editors.
