Internet English
This chapter of the History of English focuses on Internet English and how it’s changing the English language, whether we like it or not. The Internet has introduced a variety of words such as ‘download’, ‘toolbar’ and ‘firewall’.
While in the past English changed through people speaking it, the amount of typing done while people are on the Internet has led to the introduction of shortened sentences such as ‘IMHO’, ‘BTW’ and ‘FYI’ and ‘LOL’ with some of them even passing into everyday spoken English.
